GFE'S 20th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION!! Dear Friends and Supporters, Garden for the Environment, San Francisco’s premier organic demonstration garden and compost education center, is marking its 20th anniversary this year! We are celebrating and we hope that you will join us for this day chock full of garden-lovin’, belly-rubbin’, glass-raisin’ fun!
Garden for the Environment (GFE) opened in the summer of 1990 on a centrally located one-half acre parcel owned by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. From its inception, the GFE has been a public-private partnership responsive to the changing needs of San Francisco’s landscape. To celebrate the many accomplishments, and anticipate achievements yet to come, we have scheduled a day full of activities in the Garden for GFE enthusiasts of all ages. We would love for you to be a part of this day where we will honor the many hands and hearts that have touched this garden over the last 20 years! Schedule of Events: 10am – 12noon: Hands-on activities for children—apple cider making, honey making, mystery herb guessing games; planting and harvesting and, of course, composting! 1:30 – 3pm: Welcome home reception for “Get Up!” graduates and recognition of the key people and institutions that founded and sustained the GFE over the past twenty years. There will be some speeches and testimonials and plenty of time for mixing it up in the garden. 3pm – 5pm : Happy Hour with gardeners new and old!
